Owner, Master Builder and Licenced LBP

Before Ben established Grenfell Builders in 2011, Ben spent many years working for a well respected Architectural Building Company in Christchurch. This was followed by a five-year period working as a carpenter in the UK bringing home with him additional skills and experience. Ben’s family values influenced him to return to the Malvern area and afford his family the same upbringing that he experienced. You’ll be hard-pressed to find a business owner more hands-on than Ben. From your very first meeting with him, you’ll find Ben open, honest and passionate about fulfilling his client’s dream home within their budget. In his personal time he can be found with his family, enjoying the outdoors. He is passionate about being involved with sports in our local community from coaching to sponsoring his local rugby team.

Business Partner

Originally from South Africa, Sarah fell in love with New Zealand and moved over in 2007 bringing with her a wealth of knowledge and expertise in operations and project Management. She is kept busy working part-time at the local high school whilst raising three kids alongside her husband. Fynn, Hannah and Grace complete the team that is the Grenfell Family. Sarah loves the water and shares Ben’s passion for fishing – don’t tell him but Sarah is the better fisherman.

Working closely with Ben and Sarah, Kim, the newest member of our team, is our admin extraordinaire and is responsible for all the company administration and support. When not in the office, Kim enjoys getting outdoors with her young family discovering and exploring the many beautiful places on our doorstep.

James joined the team as an Apprentice straight out of Darfield high school and has been with us since 2014. Now a fully qualified tradesman, James shares our company values and passion for creating beautiful homes for our clients. When not at work, you’ll likely find James outdoors, whether horse-riding, fishing, jet boating or hunting.

Another dedicated member of the team who started with us straight out of Darfield high school, Haigh has been with us since 2016. Fully qualified, Haigh is a Darfield local and when not building dream houses, you’ll find him on the rugby field playing Division 1 for the Darfield Rugby Club.

Following in his father’s footsteps as a builder, Reece joined the team in 2018. Alongside James and Haigh, Reece is a Darfield local and is committed to delivering quality workmanship. In his spare time, you will find Reece hunting and fishing.
